Artist Statement:
As a native Southern Californian, I moved to Palm Springs in late
Spring of 2006 to settle down, and enjoy the natural beauty of this desert oasis. Little did I imagine that my
career and direction would change so dramatically.
Fine art publishing had been an interest of mine since 2001, but when I explored the art of restoring and colorizing
vintage black and white photos in the blistering summer
of 2006, my life as an artist exploded. In 2007 I was the only artist across all mediums to win 3 California State Fair Fine Art
Competition awards, amongst a field of over 2,000 entrants. Those awards included the prestigious Crystal Award of Excellence. That
award went to Chi Chi & Cubana, a midcentury depiction of downtown Palm Spring's world-famous Palm Canyon
Drive. In 2008 I won my 4th award for The Victor
Hugo Inn, Laguna Beach. This has been an amazing experience.
"I find a photograph that tells a story and try to get a
feeling for the essence of the moment in which it was created. I use known colors whenever possible. The green
color on the NBC building in Radio City - Hollywoodland was the actual color of that building in the forties
and fifties."
